New Zealand camelier with camels

Image

A New Zealand camelier poses for the camera with two camels, Sinai, date unknown. Most cameliers eventually developed a certain level of respect, if not affection, for their camels.  However the stubborn, unpredictable and sometimes violent nature of the animals meant that camels were never held in the same high regard as that shown by the troopers of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles regiments towards their horses.  At the end of the day there was no escaping the fact that horses possessed a nobility and gracefulness that the poor old ungainly camel, no matter how good-natured, could never hope to match.
