Football Ferns goal against Norway, 2023 FIFA World Cup™

The Football Ferns’ 1–0 victory over Norway at Eden Park, Auckland in the first match of the finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ was the first win by a senior New Zealand team – women’s or men’s – at a World Cup finals tournament. The only goal of the game came early in the second half, when a perfectly executed goal kick move from the Football Ferns ended with striker Hannah Wilkinson side-footing the ball into the net, sparking wild celebrations amongst most of the 42,137-strong crowd.
