Reinforcements at Stratford railway station

Image

Railway stations had always been places of farewell, but the departure of troops bound for overseas service during the First World War added to the emotion and anxiety of such moments. This crowd – including a brass band – assembled at Stratford railway station to farewell local reinforcements, possibly in 1915. Similar scenes took place at railway stations and wharves around the country.
