Rangiwhakatātae signed the East Coast sheet of the Treaty of Waitangi between 25 and 31 May 1840 at Whakawhitirā, Waiapu. He was a Ngāti Porou rangatira (chief). This may have been Paratene Rangiwhakatātae.
