A few changes

Tēnā koutou. Welcome to Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori language week). Apologies for not writing sooner but I have been distracted by some extra work relating to a programme for commemorating the centenary of the First World War (more on this in a later posting) as well as some extra work with the education programme we are developing at the National War Memorial. I will endeavour to give the Classroom a little more of my attention in the upcoming weeks.

In recent weeks Manatū Tonga, the Ministry for Culture and Heritage has had some very positive talks with colleagues at the Ministry for Education, TKI and the New Zealand Curriculum online about ways in which we can better connect digitally to ensure teachers and students have the greatest acess to the range of resources we are producing. One of the things highlighted in these talks was the need for me to re-visit a number of NCEA type activites we have produced given recent changes to the curriculum and the standards. Accordingly over the next few weeks I will be undertaking a bit of an audit of the Classroom to tidy some of these up. Assessment is not our function so where appropriate I will continue to look at possible teaching ideas and activities but leave assessment to the experts.

I have enrolled for October's NZHTA conference here in sunny Wellington where I will be giving a bit of a run down on the First World War project so I hope to see many of you there.

Hei konā rā

Steve
