British soldiers in South African War

Several New Zealanders served with the British forces, including Corporal William Taylor (seated centre, holding cane), who was a member of the Coldstream Guards.

The patriotism of New Zealand, especially in the 1900's, I can understand. But upon their return, NZ soldiers would have related a truer picture than that portrayed by Britain's gold bugs. The war was about gold and diamonds, at the time the largest deposits in the world. It was about power to the wealthy at all costs. Emily Hobhouse, Lloyd George and others bore witness of an inhuman war, if you would but publicise their accounts along with your present material. It is sad that a few sociopaths could manipulate the honour and integrity of so many across continents, to suit their purpose.
