Although our name is spelt different we are a relative of Lieutenant Edmund MacNaghten who came to NZ at the request of the Colony to protect settlers in New Plymouth against maori attacks. We trust that one day the Govt of NZ will apologise to the families of these soldiers for the sacrifice their ancestors made, ironically at the request of the NZ authorities of the time.
