Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sarah Cowan Mathieson was born about 1865 in New Zealand – the daughter of Alexander Mathieson, a farmer, and Sarah Keltie Dumbrake Liddle.

She married Alfred James Aloysius Hall, a farmer, on 19 October 1887 at her parent’s home, 'Everton House' in Andersons Bay, Dunedin.

They had six children and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Andersons Bay.

They later moved to Clinton in South Otago before retiring to Dunedin where Alfred died in 1922.

Sarah died on 28 July 1956, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
