Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Annie Gore was born in 1855 in Leamington, Warwickshire – the daughter of John Gore, a tailor and greengrocer, and Ann Allen.
Her father died in the mid 1860s and Annie emigrated to Canterbury with her mother and sister Fanny in 1874 on the Pleiades.
They settled in Dunedin and Annie married Charles Murcott, a compositor, on 7 September 1876 at the Congregational Church.
They had four children and when Annie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cumberland St, Dunedin and Annie was working as a dressmaker and draper.
In the early 1900s the family moved to Auckland where Charles had the licence of the Albion Hotel for a couple of years.
They later moved to Melbourne where Annie died on 23 June 1909 and Charles died in 1930.
