Susannah Fearnley Bowie Drew was born on 31 October 1842 in Glasgow, Scotland – the daughter of John Drew, a tailor, and Jane Morrison.

She emigrated to New Zealand with her family about 1863 and they settled in Dunedin.

Susannah married Peter Spence Omand, a painter, on 26 January 1882 at her parents’ home, Elgin House, in Cumberland St, Dunedin.

They had seven children and when Susannah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Bishops Court, Roslyn, Dunedin.

Peter died at their home in 1926 and Susannah died at their daughter’s home in Ashburton on 1 May 1941, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
