Farming locality near the west bank of the Rangitata River, 23km north-east of Temuka.

Meaning of place name
Rangi: day or sky; tata: lowering clouds. The settlement was known at various times as Coldstream and Ealing: the post office name was changed to Woodbridge on 1 April 1881, but reverted to Rangitata on 25 May 1881.
