King Dick the peacemaker cannon, 1902

Image
King Dick the peacemaker cannon, 1902

Soldiers alongside a mock cannon, painted on the barrel of which are the words, ‘“King Dick” The Peacemaker’. This photograph was taken in 1902 during peace celebrations in Nelson following the South African War.

The role of Premier ‘King Dick’ Seddon in the war can scarcely be described as that of a peacemaker.
