Manawatu supporters, 1952

Shield fever, 1952. Manawatu supporters gather outside the Hamilton Hotel, which they renamed the ‘Waterloo’ for the day (perhaps after Waterloo Crescent in Palmerston North, or seeking inspiration from the famous 1815 battle). Waikato avoided the fate of Napoleon and sent the challengers home empty-handed, winning 12-3.
