Māori Hauhau prisoners on Napier foreshore, 1866

‘Hauhau’ prisoners on the foreshore below Napier prison, waiting to embark on the St Kilda for Wharekauri (Chatham Island). This group may be the third batch of prisoners sent from Napier, which comprised 47 people, including Te Kooti. The photograph was taken in 1866, possibly by Charles Robson.
