Containerisation also shook up rail freight, which switched from traditional high-sided wagons to flatdecks. The fact that a quarantine officer was inspecting this ACT container at inland Palmerston North in the 1970s shows that fully-loaded boxes no longer had to be loaded or discharged at the ports.
