Queen Elizabeth II was New Zealand’s head of state and reigned as monarch from 6 February 1952 until her death on 8 September 2022 (9 September New Zealand time). Earlier in 2022 she became the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee (70 years on the throne).
This portrait was taken to mark the Queen’s Diamond (60th) Jubilee in 2012. She wears her New Zealand honours: the Sovereign’s insignia of the Order of New Zealand, the New Zealand Order of Merit, Star, Sash and Badge, and the Queen’s Service Order. The diamond fern brooch was a gift to the Queen from the women of Auckland during her first visit to New Zealand in 1953–54.
