Tai Tapu church memorial window

The First World War memorial window in St Paul's Church, Tai Tapu.

St Paul's memorial church was erected by Sir Heaton Rhodes in memory of his wife and was consecrated on 25 January 1932.

This image shows a memorial window which features St George and St Martin (of Tours), two renowned saints who were soldiers. The day chosen for the Armistice, 11 November, was St Martin's Day. St George is a patron saint of soldiers and of England. He was, according to tradition, a Roman soldier in the Guard of the Emporer Diocletian.
