The carved wooden war memorial gates at Wairuru Marae were unveiled on Anzac Day 2002. The gateposts incorporate representations of First and Second World War Māori soldiers. The dedication reads:
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM / HE TOHU / KI NGA TAMATOA A TUMATAUENGA KA MAU / MAHARA TONU TATAU KI A RATAU. 25-4-2002.
