Football Ferns goal against Norway, 2023 FIFA World Cup

The Football Ferns’ 1–0 victory over Norway at Eden Park, Auckland in the first match of the finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup was the first win by a senior New Zealand team – women’s or men’s – at a World Cup finals tournament. The only goal of the game came early in the second half, when a perfectly executed goal kick move from the Football Ferns ended with striker Hannah Wilkinson side-footing the ball into the net, sparking wild celebrations amongst most of the 42,137-strong crowd.
