Waikouaiti memorial in 2010.

The memorial is constructed from mainly grey sandstone but incorporates three colours (source unknown to me) with an ashlar basalt base. It is in the form of an arch over the footpath following SH1 through the town and it is (now) very close to SH1 and it will probably form an impediment to further widening of the highway at this point.

The memorial honours 41 servicepersons who were killed in the First World War.
