The Kopuarahi School Second World War memorial flagstaff was erected in April 1947. The memorial tablet, which was set into a small concrete cairn beneath the flagstaff, bore the names of two former pupils: Lance-Corporal Douglas J.H. Death, killed in action in Italy on 1 December 1943; and Flight-Lieutenant Maxwell Roy Harwood, killed in an air accident in Germany on 7 November 1946.
