The Waiheke peace rock, a 12-ton boulder sourced from the Stoney Ridge quarry, was unveiled on the corner of Ostend and Whakarite Roads on 25 December 2005. It had plaques on two sides: one dedicated the memorial to 'New Zealand's finest and those who have given their all for our freedom and peace'; the other expressed appreciation to their families. The Waiheke peace rock stands across an intersection and within sight of the Waiheke war memorial.
