Auckland Normal Intermediate School war memorial gates, Epsom. At the time they were built in 1932 this site was occupied by the Auckland Teacher's Training College.
For years and years up until the 1980s these Teacher's College and ANI school gates would be traditionally closed at sunset each evening in observance of those who paid the supreme sacrifice. Entrance and exit would only then be available from Epsom Avenue. With the advent of the ANI Community Centre and their evening programmes and the training during the week of the Teacher's Rugby Club with it's changing rooms directly opposite to the gates, the decision was made to leave these gates open breaking a fifty year observance carried out each evening by the College's Janitor.
