Biographical information provided by Helen Edwards for the He Tohu exhibition:
Thisis likely to be Annie McLeod Allan (nee Burn). Annie was born in Arbroath, Scotland around 1858 and was the daughter of two teachers, Andrew Burn and Margaret Gordon Burn (née Huie). Margaret also signed the same Sheet of the Petition.
Annie was educated at Otago Girl’s High School where her mother was the first Lady Principal. She followed her parents into the teaching profession, completing her training in Dunedin. In 1882 Annie married Richard Sutcliffe Allan, son of James Allan from Hopehill, Taieri, Dunedin. The couple’s two daughters also went on to attend Otago Girls High School.
