Alice Jane Clements was born about 1872 in Tasmania, Australia – the daughter of Lawrence Clements and Elizabeth Sarah Johnston.
She came to New Zealand with her family in the late 1870s and they settled in Palmerston in North Otago.
Alice married John Henry Appleby, a photographer and stationer, on July 22nd 1890 in the Palmerston parish.
They had 3 children and lived in Palmerston where Alice signed the suffrage petition.
Alice died at her home on September 3rd 1942 and John died in 1949. They are buried together in the Palmerston Cemetery.
