Annie Rose was born about 1833, possibly in Hobart, Tasmania.
She married William Burk, a master mariner, on 19 February 1852 in Hobart and they had four children before they sailed for New Zealand about 1861.
They had a further six children and lived at first in Southland before moving to Dunedin in the early 1870s.
William died suddenly in 1883 and when Annie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Forth St, Dunedin.
Annie died on 26 March 1908, she is buried with William and their daughter Sarah in the Northern Cemetery.
