Biography contribute by Katherine Blakeley

Janet/Jessie Henderson was born in Tasmania, Australia on 15 April 1861 – the daughter of Allan Henderson, a bricklayer, and Mary Glenn.

She came to New Zealand with her family as a young child and they settled in Dunedin.

Jessie married Edward Dreweatt Bust, a draper, on 21 June 1883 in Dunedin.

They had three children who all died as young adults before their parents.

The family lived in Gore where Jessie signed the suffrage petition.

In about 1910 they moved to Timaru where Jessie died on 19 November 1936 and Edward died in 1942.

They are buried with their children in the Timaru Cemetery.
