Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Ann McDonald was born about 1843 in Aberdeen, Scotland.
She emigrated to New Zealand about 1862 and married James Calder, a waggoner, on 23 February 1866 in Riverton, Southland.
They had 13 children and moved to Bluff in 1891 where Ann signed the suffrage petition and James worked at road construction.
James died at the Southland Hospital in 1911 and Ann died on 22 June 1914 - her obituary said she 'was of a kindly but retiring disposition.'
They are buried in the family grave in the Bluff Cemetery.
