Margaret Jane Clarke was born about 1835 in Ireland – the daughter of James Clarke, a labourer.
She married James Huston, a labourer, on 19 May 1851 in Coleraine, Derry and they had five children before they emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Waimea.
They settled at Glenore where James worked as a shepherd – he died in 1878 and is buried in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
Margaret re-married on 12 April 1881 to John Clymer, a widower storekeeper at Glenore.
They lived at Glenore where Margaret signed the suffrage petition – she died at her home on 21 August 1904 and John died in 1910.
They are buried in the Glenore Cemetery.
