Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Christina Campbell Cowie was born about 1849 in Dyce, Aberdeenshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Cowie, a mole catcher, and Ann Smith.

Her mother died in 1860 and her father died in 1873.

Her aunt Elspit/Elsie Smith (See 139 Elsie Smith) stayed with her family looking after Christina and her brothers.

In 1875 Christina, her aunt and four of her brothers boarded the Auckland bound for Otago.

They settled in Milburn in South Otago where Christina signed the suffrage petition.

Christina did not marry and she died on 23 October 1898. She is buried in the Fairfax, Milton Cemetery.
