Elizabeth Frances Davis was born in 1872 in New Zealand, the daughter of Thomas Davis, a hotelkeeper, and Emily Ward.
Her father died in 1880 and her mother remarried the following year to farmer William Hewitt.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living in Palmerston in North Otago working as a housemaid.
She had two sons in 1891 and 1895. The youngest died aged 10 months.
Elizabeth married John Todd, a labourer and widower with eight children, in 1911.
They lived in Woodville then Dannevirke, where Elizabeth died on June 6th 1944 and John died three weeks later.
They are buried in the Mangatera Cemetery, Dannevirke.
