Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Harris was born on 18 April 1863 in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Harris and Mary Hay Neilson. (See 126 Mary Harris)

She emigrated to New Zealand with her parents in 1863 on the Daniel Rankin and they settled in the Owaka district.

Elizabeth married Randolph Douglas Dick, a farm labourer, on 25 November 1885 in the Owaka parish.

They had eight children and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were farming at Tahatika in the Owaka Valley.

Three of Elizabeth’s sisters also signed the petition (See 126 Mary Hewson, 126 Catherine Neil Harris and 126 Jeannie Black Harris)

They sold the farm in 1906 and moved to nearby Warepa then to Broad Bay on the Otago Peninsula.

Elizabeth died at Broad Bay on 24 December 1934 and Randolph died in 1946. They are buried in the Broad Bay Cemetery.
