Laura Susanna Beere was born in 1848 in Bath, Somersetshire, England – daughter of John Beere, a whitesmith and Catherine Rogers.
On 6 October 1869 Laura married James Dickson, a baker, in Edinburgh, Scotland. A daughter was born in 1871 in Westminster, London and, in 1873, the family arrived in Otago on the Allahabad. Another seven children were born in New Zealand. Her daughter Laura Matilda Jane Dickson also signed the petition.
James had a baker’s shop in Princes St - the family lived there until about 1893 when James closed down his business and they shifted to Nelson St, Caversham.
Laura died at Nelson St on 17 September 1904 and James died in 1914. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
