Sarah McDonald was born in Victoria, Australia in 1859 – the daughter of Angus McDonald and Sarah McKinnon. (See 299 Sarah McDonald)
She came to New Zealand with her family about 1862 and they farmed at Georgetown in North Otago.
Sarah married Alexander Don on 18 July 1883. They had three children and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Duntroon.
Alexander died in September 1916 and just a few days later their eldest son David was killed in action 'somewhere in France'.
Sarah died at her home in Oamaru on 9 January 1932, she is buried with Alexander in the family grave in the Old Oamaru Cemetery.
