Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Dunlop Cuddie was born in New Zealand in 1859 – the fourth daughter of Thomas Cuddie, a farmer, and Mary Parkinson.

She married James Dow, a farmer, on 26 July 1883 at her mother’s house in Mosgiel.

They had two children and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Dowfield Farm, Outram, on the Taieri Plain near Dunedin.

In the late 1900s James and Margaret retired from farming and went to live in Andersons Bay, Dunedin.

James died in 1919 and Margaret died on 2 December 1920, they are buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
