Mary Gray was born about 1859 in Perthshire, Scotland – she married William Whamond Duke, a butcher, on 13 July 1881 in Kerriemuir, Scotland.
They emigrated to Otago about 1883 and had five children.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in George St, Dunedin where the family butcher’s shop was located.
William died at his home in Roslyn in 1922 and Mary died at her daughter’s home in Highgate, Dunedin on 4 August 1942.
They are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
