Jane Wheeler Martin was born about 1826 in England. She married Thomas Eason, a wheelwright, in 1845 in Cambridgeshire and they had two sons before they emigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1848 on the Palmira.
They had a further six children in Australia, three who died in infancy, before sailing for Otago about 1863.
The family settled in Dunedin and their last child was born in 1866.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition they were living in Melbourne St, South Dunedin. Jane died at her home on 25 May 1896 - she is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
Thomas died in1911at his daughter’s (See 66 Mrs G Harrington) home in Ardgowan, North Otago, he is buried in the Oamaru Cemetery.
