Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Fairbairn was born in New Zealand in 1862 – the daughter of Thomas Fairbairn, a bootmaker, and Elizabeth Simpson.

When Jane signed the suffrage petition she was living in Andersons Bay, Dunedin, probably with her parents, and working as a dressmaker. Her sister Elizabeth Lucy also signed the petition.

Jane died on 15 February 1915 at her brother’s house in Anderson Bay.

She is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
