Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary McNaught McLean was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 9 April 1842 – the daughter of Robert McLean, a joiner, and Margaret White.

She married James Falconer, also a joiner, in Glasgow on 29 June 1866.

They had nine children and emigrated to Otago about 1885.

The family settled in Dunedin and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in North Taieri Rd, Kirkland Hill, Roslyn.

James died at his home in 1908 and Mary died on 5 December 1911. They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
