Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jemima Charlotte Mails Georgeson was born about 1865 in Tingwall, Shetland Islands – the daughter of Charles Georgeson and Grace Eliza Scott.

Her mother died in 1867 and her father re-married in 1872 to Ann Catherine Russell. (See 53 A Georgeson)

Charlotte emigrated to Otago with her father and step-mother in 1874 on the Parsee.

She married Charles William Gibbs, a fishmonger, in 1889 in Balmain, New South Wales.

They had a son in Balmain before returning to New Zealand where a further four children were born.

When Charlotte signed the suffrage petition the family were living in George St, Dunedin.

Charlotte died on 12 September 1932 and Charles died in 1934, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
