Biography contributed by Kathryn Ronson (neé Zanders) and Beryl McDowell (neé Zanders), great-great-granddaughters

Susannah was born Susannah Wolfe in 1845 in Yoxford, Suffolk, England. She was the daughter of Samuel Wolfe and Charlotte (nee King). She was raised by her solo mother after her father was transported to Tasmania in 1850.

Susannah married Stephen Wilson on 15 April 1867 in Aldringham, Suffolk. They had three children; William Thomas (1868), Jemima (1870) and Robert (1872).

Susannah and Stephen immigrated to New Zealand on the Waikato arriving in Wellington in November 1874. They settled in Whanganui and had six more children; Elizabeth (1875), Alice (1877), Mary Ann (1878), Charlotte (1879), Herbert (1882) and Daniel (1883).

Unfortunately Stephen was accidently killed on 11 January 1884 while working on the railway construction near Patea.

In June 1885 Susannah married William Gough in Whanganui. Sadly she was widowed again in November 1897. Susannah lived many years at #3 Lowther St and worked as a midwife until her death in June 1910. She is buried in the Heads Road cemetery in Whanganui.
