Edith Jane Govan was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of Alexander Govan, a carpenter, and Bertha Margaret Bateman.
When she signed the suffrage petition Edith was living with her family in Burnside, Dunedin.
She married Alexander Lonsdale Boldero, a miner, in 1902 and they had two children.
In 1907 Alexander died in an accident at the Nelson Brick, Pottery & Tile Co. works when he was entangled in some clay-laden trucks and his neck was broken.
Edith re-married in 1909 to John Blake Hunter, a widower and compositor.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Riverton in Southland where John died in 1925, he is buried in the Riverton Cemetery.
Edith died on 9 November 1947, she was cremated and her ashes scattered.
