Sarah Dickson was born about 1842 in Wigtownshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Dickson, a ploughman, & Jane Barr.
In 1863 she emigrated to Otago on the Victory with her parents and extended family.
Her father died shortly after arrival and is buried on Quarantine Island, in the Otago Harbour.
Sarah married Anthony Grant, a farm servant, in July 1864 at her brother’s home in Mosgiel.
They had 8 children and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Anderston Road, Roslyn where Anthony ran a store.
Sarah died at her home on November 8th 1903 and Anthony died in 1921 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
