Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Eliza Scott Johnston was born about 1848 in Sandstin and Aithsting, Shetland Islands. She was the daughter of James Johnston and Jane Bryden.

On 31 December 1868 she married John Thomas Henry and they emigrated to New Zealand in about 1869.

They had seven children in New Zealand but lost an infant son in 1875 and again in 1876, their four year old son and six year old daughter both died in August of 1877, and in 1894 their twelve year old son was run over by a tram while throwing snowballs near the tram tracks.

John died in 1912 and Agnes died on 15 May 1939, they are both buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
