Margaret/Maggie Reade Hislop was born in 1872 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Hislop, a watchmaker, & Emily Christina Lea.
Her mother died shortly after her birth & her father re-married the following year.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at Maybank, North East Valley, Dunedin.
She married Francis McDiarmid, a farmer, on January 26th 1898 at her home - they had one daughter & lived at Woodside on the Taieri Plains.
They celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1948 at their daughter’s home in Outram.
Francis died later that year & Margaret died on July 30th 1957 in Dunedin, they are buried together in the West Taieri Cemetery.
