Emma Miller was born in 1857 in London, England – the daughter of George Miller, a carpenter, and Mary Ling.
She emigrated to New Zealand shortly after her birth and her family settled in Dunedin.
Emma married William Hogg, a bookbinder, on 22 March 1878 at All Saints’ Church in Dunedin.
They had seven children and when Emma signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Queen St, Dunedin.
William died at their home in 1919 and Emma died on 30 March 1931, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
