Wilhelmina (Minina) Scott Goodsman was born on February 18th 1837 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the daughter of Robert Goodsman, an innkeeper, and Janet Purves. Her father died in 1853.

In 1858, Wilhelmina sailed for Otago on the Three Bells accompanied by her mother and sister Mary.

She married James Wanless Hood, a whitesmith, on August 19th 1861 in Dunedin. They had four children.

About 1870 they moved to Waikouaiti where James died in 1882. Two of Wilhelmina’s sons also died in 1887 and 1890.

She signed the suffrage petition in Waikouaiti, as did her daughter Janet.

Wilhelmina died at her home on February 18th 1906. She is buried with her family in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
