Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Emily Ann Snow was born in Victoria, Australia in 1861 – the daughter of Jonathan Snow and Martha Hellewell.
Her mother died in 1866 and, in 1872, Emily sailed for Otago on the Tararua with her brother and sister. (See 86 Alice McLeod)
Emily married John Morrison Innes in 1882 and their daughter was born in 1886.
When Emily signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Clinton, in South Otago and John was working as a tailor.
In the late 1890s they moved to Dunedin where they ran the Jubilee Boarding House, then later Innes’s private hotel – a temperance hotel in George Street.
John died in 1929 and Emily died at her home on 11 June 1934. She is buried with John and their daughter in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
