Margaret was born about 1833 in Ireland.
In 1874 she emigrated to Otago on the Mairi Bhan with her husband John, a farm labourer, and their five children - they settled in Dunedin.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in George St.
She died on 24 June 1893 and John died on 26 September the same year, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
