Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Annie Julia Jewett was born around 1871 in St Heliers, Jersey, in the Channel Islands – the daughter of William Thomas Jewett, a shoemaker from Canada, and Margaret.
Annie arrived in Otago from London in 1874 on the Carnatic with her family. Her sister Rosa also signed the 1893 suffrage petition, as did their mother. In 1894 Annie married Samuel Simmonds, a hardware traveller, and they had five children.
I have been unable to find out where Annie died.
